Ultimate Canada has been accepted by the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) to develop a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for ultimate.

Ultimate Canada recently held a training session in Ottawa to train Master Learner Facilitators (MLF). UNL sent an individual to receive this training. The purpose of the MLF is to train Learner Facilitators (LF) who have the ability to train Coaches under the National Coaching Certification Program for Ultimate. Under the current model, coaches will initially be trained by the MLF. These coaches can eventually progress to LF status.

UNL is currently seeking applications from individuals who are current UNL members and wish to be trained as Level 1 coaches for Ultimate under the NCCP for Ultimate. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the required information below. There are a limited number of spaces available.

Please return an electronic copy of this application form to president@ultimatenl.ca no later than noon on Friday, May 11^th, in order to be considered for this training.

Junior and Senior High School Ultimate Tournaments

Ultimate NL is looking forward to organizing another set of spring School Tournaments! This year the Senior High School Tournament will be held at the Technip Indoor Turf on May 25th from 6pm to 10pm. For more information on this tournament, please click here.

The Junior High Ultimate Tournament will take place at the Powerplex May 26th from 9:30am to 6pm. For more information on this tournament, please click here.

We look forward to seeing even more teams this year and watching some great ultimate. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the next generation of Ultimate athletes.

Beginners Clinic at the Powerplex February 18th from 6pm to 8pm

Ultimate NL is putting on a beginners clinic for both men and women that would like to learn more about throwing the disc, some game strategy and improve their understanding of the game. This is a great chance to practice your ultimate skills outside of the game setting. Here are the particulars:

Where: Sport NL Powerplex gym on Crosby Road

When: Saturday, February 18th from 6pm to 8pm

What you need: Indoor sneakers (they are very strict about no outside shoes), water bottle (there are no water fountains but there is a sink), long sleeve shirt in case you get cold.

Cost: FREE for UNL members (if you have played in any league in the last year- MZU, SWURL, MAUL- then you are a member), $5 for non-members

Tim Morrill is Coming to Newfoundland!

Tim Put on a fantastic set of clinics- thank you so much for coming Tim! Hopefully we will be seeing Tim in Newfoundland again in the future.

Tim Morrill, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, will be coming to St. John’s November 12th and 13th.

There will be 3 clinics offered: November 12th evening we will be having a speed and agility session. This will take place at the NL Sport Center gym. The second and third are November 13th 9am-11am and 2pm-4pm and will be in the weight room at the Sport NL Centre. There will be a limit to the number of people in each clinic so sign up early.

UNL does PESIC!

We did what?! UNL board members Suzy Stever & Greer Hunt (with the help of Nick Delaney) attended the 2011 Physical Education Special Interest Council (PESIC) conference to promote and explain Ultimate to the physical education teachers of Newfoundland.

So what does this mean?

30+ gym teachers have learned a greater knowledge about Ultimate and therefore will be able to teach their students how to better understand the spirit and competitiveness of Ultimate!

Each teacher will approximately have atleast 3 different gym classes of 30 or so youth, which, pretty much means that Ultimate will be taught to around 3000 kids this school year. Not to shabby UltimateNL.

Thanks to all the teachers for coming out at 9:00am and we hope to see you next year!
